"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit." - Aristotle
Servcorp supports the communities and the global society in which we operate in our ongoing endeavour to be an excellent corporate citizen.
Servcorp works with many local and international charities around the world, especially those which are close to the hearts and minds of the Servcorp team. We are committed to supporting and offering a helping hand to those people in our community who may not be as fortunate as others.
Team members and senior management in each country host raffles, donation drives and charity functions all year round. Every dollar that is raised by our local teams at each Servcorp location is matched dollar-for-dollar by Servcorp.
The Joan Salter Fund
The Joan Salter Fund is a charity helping young people with cancer and debilitating diseases such as multiple sclerosis. Servcorp actively raises money for the fund which is administered by the Rotary Club of Sydney, Joan Salter's own Rotary Club and an organisation close to her heart.
Between 1985 and 1996, Joan Salter was Servcorp's International General Manager. She was a vibrant, successful businesswoman and was instrumental in developing Servcorp. At age 46, Joan succumbed to liver and bowel cancer.
Youngcare
Servcorp and our teams in Australia have long recognised that aged care facilities are not the ideal place for a young person with high care needs. Simply because there are no alternatives, many young Australians are forced to reside in aged care facilities. Youngcare provides relevant and dignified living arrangements for young Australians with high care needs.
During the 2008-09 financial year, Servcorp raised in excess $250,000 through fundraisers and charity events.
The Cancer Council
From all around Australia, Servcorp team members participate in major fundraising events for the Cancer Council (Daffodil day and Pink Ribbon Day) each year by donating their time and money.
As Australia's peak national non-government cancer awareness and control organisation, the Cancer Council is a not-for-profit organisation. The organisation advocates for the rights of cancer patients for best treatment and supportive care. They advise the Australian Government and other bodies on practices and policies to help prevent, detect and treat cancer.
National Breast Cancer Foundation
Established in 1994, the National Breast Cancer Foundation promotes and supports breast cancer research in all its forms. The foundation has allocated over $27.4 million to 163 breast cancer research projects throughout Australia. The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is a not-for-profit foundation.
Respect
Respect is a new surgical procedure which targets liver cancer and dramatically reduces blood loss. More than 40 patients have already undergone Respect which reduces blood loss by 70 - 90%. It is hoped that this innovative technology will one day lead to a cure for liver cancer.
Servcorp's support for this new procedure is coupled with The Joan Salter Fund and we also support the research into the causes and treatments of bowel and other cancers. This support helps to fund research into causes such as lifestyle, diet, and ethnicity. Surprisingly, it is the first in-depth study of its kind, globally.
Dry July
“Dry July” is an initiative now in it's third year. The initiative was originally started by a Servcorp team member. Those who participate in Dry July took on the challenge of abstinence from alcohol for the month of July. In 2008, more than 1,000 people participated event during July, an amazing accomplishment for its inaugural year and in 2009 there were more than 4000 participants who raised in excess of one-million dollars.
The Servcorp teams has donated over $10,000 of their own money and the company matched that amount.
MRC Biotech
Servcorp supports MRC Biotech’s work on the inhibition of tumours. It is hoped that MRC's research into Vitamin D3 and Albendazole will ultimately help those suffering from liver cancer. Unisearch, a University of NSW research team, is now testing these patented treatments on patients.
MS Society
Servcorp gives young people immobilised by multiple sclerosis access to the World Wide Web. Servcorp operates the "special cyber lounge" at the MS Centre in Lidcombe, NSW. It is designed for patients receiving treatment or living at the centre.
Salvation Army
Servcorp continually supports the Red Shield Appeal's work.
